Players, through invitation, are invited to be part of Camden Tennis Academy's Junior Development Training Squads conducted at the South Camden Tennis Club complex to further enhance their tennis development. The object of the squad is to better prepare these juniors, for competition tennis of all levels.
We currently have 2 squads in operation. The first is for the very young players, starting from 7 and 8 years of age and the second is for the more advanced tennis players aged from 13 years. These players must show potential and a willingness to learn more of the game. Their attitude to the game and to their peers is also assessed.
The squad training is structured to develop specific components of the game that juniors require to prepare for their local, district and greater tournaments. It is the oportunity where both girls and boys get to develop and hone their skills against other talented players. Ability and the determination to improve will be 2 key requirements for successful participation in these squads.
These components include :-
- Technical development - developing all aspects of stroke production, emphasing good footwork, being well balanced while producing solid, technically correct strokes that will hold up under any pressure situation.
- Tactical development - developing both defensive and offensive strategies and patterns of play
- Physical development - good tennis players require speed, agility, flexibility, strength and endurance
- The right environment - provide an environment that the students feel comfortable in, promote a good work ethic combined with enjoyment.
- Supervised match play - a great time to assess individual performance and overall development
Video analysis is available and will be incorporated into and be part of their training schedule.
All facets of the game are addressed and while the students are playing supervised match play the coach is assessing their development and individual/specific areas that need to be corrected during their next individual or shared lesson.
